Eating Out in County Wexford

County Wexford is particularly favoured by the large number of excellent restaurants. We have at least four within a few minutes drive from Shielbaggan

The Hollow. This is our "local" - a ten minute walk down the road. Essentially a pub - and a nice one - but they do excellent and substantial bar meals. Many of our guests have discovered it and given consistently good reports. They don't normally take bookings and they get busy at weekends.

Dunbrody Country House and Restaurant Tel: 051 389 600. Lovely Georgian house, originally the home of Lord Donegal. Very high standard of cuisine in a beautiful setting. Check out their web site here

Kilmokea Gardens and Tea Rooms (051 388 109)The old Georgian house is lovely and the gardens are enchanting. This is an absolute favourite of ours and very popular with our guests - and much favoured by artists. They have recently (2004) started to offer an a la carte evening meal to non residents. The setting us absolutley delightful and we believe that the cooking must be rated among the best in the county. Click here to visit the Kilmokea web site. It is run by Emma Hewlett who will make you very welcome.

The Seafood Bar at the Strand Tavern, Duncannon. We've not tried this ourselves, but our guests have thoroughly recommended it

Sqigl Restaurant, Duncannon. Don't be put off by the funny name - the food is really quite sophisticated! Tel: 051 389 700

Galley Restaurant, New Ross. This is actually a floating restaurant - and you are taken on a very scenic tour up the river Barrow while you eat. Many of our guests have enjoyed it. Tel. 051 421 723

Templar’s Inn Seafood bar and Restaurant Tel 051 397162.  About 15 minutes away on the road to Hook Head.

Silver Fox Seafood Restaurant Tel 053 29888.   At Kilmore Quay on the south coast. Well worth the half hour drive. Go  at lunch time, and then if it’s a fine day, take a boat trip out to the Saltee Islands to see the wildlife.

The Lobster Pot Sea Food Bar, Carne Tel. 051 31110/31457. This is actually quite a plush establishment and the food is excellent - well worth the distance. Carne is at the extreme south east of the country
