HOW TO GET TO COUNTY WEXFORD
See Bottom of this Page for Web Sites for On Line Air and Ferry Bookings
One of the many reasons why we have chosen County Wexford for our home in Ireland to is that of its proximity to the UK and the ease of travel between the two countries.
Rosslare Ferryport. There are regular sailings from Pembroke and Fishguard (Stena) to Rosslare. Rosslare harbour is only a forty minutes drive away from Shielbaggan.
Waterford Airport is our nearest airport: Aer Arann operate daily flights between here and London Luton and back, and also to Manchester and back. Car hire is available at Waterford airport. From the airport drive to the ferry at Passage East - the crossing is less than ten minutes to Ballyhack, and from there it is only five minutes to Shielbaggan.
Dublin Airport is about one hundred miles away. We often use Dublin and then hire a car because of the good value and frequency of the flights. The drive is lovely - Dublin City can be entirely by-passed to the west, then on to Naas (say it to rhyme with "place") joining the new M7 and then the M9 motoways. Leave the M9 at junction 6 (Signposted New Ross) to Bagenalstown, Borris and Graiguenamanagh. The road takes you through the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains and under the shadow of 1,700 foot Brandon Hill. If the weather is clear, the driving is glorious and often with scarcely any other traffic.
Cork Airport is 85 miles away, assuming you take the short ferry crossing over Waterford Harbour from Passage East. We have used it regularly over the past few years and find it compact and efficient. The drive to County Wexford is delightful, with wide, straight, uncrowded roads, and no major towns until you reach Waterford. If the weather is reasonable, you will have some lovely sea and mountain views on the way.
